Ge Hybrid Water Heater

The GE Hybrid Heat Pump Water Heater Will Cut Your Heating Bills by Half

Ge Hybrid Water Heater

The new GE Hybrid Heat Pump Water Heater is a combination of a heat pump and an electric tank water heater. A heat pump is a highly efficient, eco friendly device that can be used in both space heating and water heating. It heats water by extracting heat from the surrounding air and transferring the heat to water in a tank. It does not create heat but simply moves the heat from the air to the water. The heated refrigerant is then pumped through a compressor. Compression of the refrigerant intensifies the heat, causing the refrigerant to vaporize. As the hot vapour circulates through the coils its heat is transferred to the water.

This heat pump water heater is designed to be an easy replacement for your old electric water heater. Actually the heat pump itself uses very little electricity. Electricity is only used when the backup heating elements are activated.

You can use the "high demand mode" to activate the heating elements when you need sufficient hot water for a large group of overnight guests. There is also a "lower energy mode" that reduces your energy costs by not utilizing the full heating capacity of the electric elements. The GE Hybrid Heat Pump Water Heater can even integrate with a smart grid.

Hybrid Water Heaters Are A Great Option For Homeowners

By now most people know that traditional storage tank water heaters are inefficient in how they supply hot water to your home. Hybrid water heaters can be viewed as the compromise between traditional storage models and tankless systems. They offer substantial savings in terms of energy, like a tankless unit, without the high installation costs associated with tankless systems. Some of these systems were designed to connect like a traditional electric unit which means the installation is very similar to that of a traditional tank storage unit.

What makes them a "hybrid" water heater, they combine the best of heat pump water heaters with benefit of an electric water heater for those climates where a heat pump design just cannot supply enough hot water. This allows homeowners to benefit from the reduced monthly electricity charges while having adequate hot water for your daily usage needs. Most people understand how storage heating units work. They fill a tank with water and heat it and reheat it until it is used. Water heating units that are designed to use a heat pump will actually pull the heat from the air. This heat is then processed with a compressor and used to heat the tank contents. The drawback to heat pump units is the climates that will supply enough warm air year-round.
